This Monday, May 27th, is Memorial Day. On Tuesday, the London Bridge Resort placed 750 patriotic-themed bouquets on the graves of military veterans at the local Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens cemetery. This helps set the tone for the upcoming ceremony to honor the memory of our fallen soldiers in Lake Havasu on Memorial Day.
Residents are invited to join Lake Havasu chapters of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Marine Corps League, Disabled Veterans and the 82nd Airborne as well as local auxiliaries in honoring these men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. The ceremony will begin at 10am Monday at the Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. A color guard, rifle salute and the playing of Taps will be included in the tribute. Mayor Mark Nexsen is scheduled as the keynote speaker. The American Legion and VFW have also coordinated a motorcycle ride at the same time.
Everyone is welcome to attend. You are encouraged to bring water and chairs for your comfort. Any motorcycle rider interested in participating in the ride should meet up at the American Legion parking lot (181 Paseo Del Sol) at 8:45 am. If you don’t have a flag, one will be provided for you at that time. Please come honor the memory of our brave military members in Lake Havasu this Monday, May 27, 2013. These soldiers gave absolutely everything so that we could enjoy this amazing life we have here. You can certainly spare a few moments from your day to thank them, can’t you?

Water plays an important part in the lives of everyone, especially those of us who live in the desert. Lake Havasu City, in particular, owes much of its livelihood to the water. Unfortunately, it seems that every summer, we hear of at least one death on the lake due to drinking and (boat) driving, carelessness or some other avoidable reason. That’s why things like the Lake Havasu Tri-State Boating Safety Fair are important to attend.
This Saturday, May 18th, the Boating Safety Fair will be featured on the London Bridge Beach Park Stage in the Lake Havasu English Village. Boating officials from Arizona and the surrounding states will be on hand to provide valuable boating safety information. Every boat is required to have at least one US Coast Guard approved life jacket that is the proper size for every person onboard the vessel. Bring your old life jackets in to have them checked out by the boating officials. If they are unsafe or your family has simply outgrown them, you can trade them in as long as supplies last. The boating officials will also provide a free vessel safety check. So, bring your boat through the Channel to get the “once over”.
Admission to the Lake Havasu Tri-State Boating Safety Fair is absolutely free. For more information, call Officer S. Angel with the Arizona Game & Fish Department at (928) 916-8519. Bring your old life jackets or ride up in your own boat so that officials can check it out to make sure it is safe for some water fun this summer. They key to having a great time on Lake Havasu is safety. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to keep you, your family and your friends safe on the lake.

It would appear that the predictions of higher demand having an impact on home prices this year may be true. At least, that’s what the Lake Havasu real estate market has seen so far. And, if we keep going at this pace, we’re set to hit over $390M in total residential sales by the end of 2013. You would have to go back more than five years to see numbers that high!
According to WARDEX (the Western Arizona Regional MLS), this year’s sales figures have already increased significantly over the same time last year. There were a total of 487 residential sales in Lake Havasu City for the first quarter of 2013 (January 1st through March 31st). That’s a 12.2% increase over the first quarter of 2012. The average list price for a Lake Havasu City home sold in the first quarter of 2013 was $186,127. It eventually sold for an average of $178,936. That means that the average home sold for 96.14% of the original asking price. That’s just over 1% higher than the same time last year, which saw homes selling for an average of 95.13% of the original asking price.
Lake Havasu homes saw a 12.4% increase in the average listing price in comparison to the first quarter of 2012 as well. So, not only are homes selling for closer to asking, but the price point at which negotiations start is actually higher as well. That’s wonderful news for anyone interested in selling their Havasu home this year. On the other hand, if you are going to sell, you do need to be patient. The days on market has increased by nine days. The payoff, however, is better if you can stand to wait a little.
Now that the foreclosures and short sales that saturated the Lake Havasu real estate market in the past have dwindled, traditional and new home sales have begun to feel some much welcomed relief. When you’re ready to enter the Havasu market, just give me a call.
